Mango is a super fruit! Let us find out the nutrition facts of this succulent sweet tropical delight. A mango is one way to experience that tropical feeling without ever leaving your kitchen.

Mangoes are an incredibly healthy snack. You can eat the entire fruit for just over a hundred calories. High in fiber, virtually fat-free, mangoes contain numerous vitamins. It is easy to see why tropical mangoes are considered a super fruit. Mangoes contain beta-carotene which may help slow the aging process, reduce the risk of certain forms of cancer, improve lung function, and reduce complications associated with diabetes.

A ripe mango is sweet, with a unique taste that nevertheless varies from variety to variety. The texture of the flesh varies between cultivars, some having a soft, pulpy texture similar to an over-ripe plum, while others have firmer flesh like a cantaloupe or avocado. In some cultivars, the flesh has a fibrous texture.

Indian Cuisine
In India mango is used as pickle (aachar), amawat or aampapad, murraba, amchur, jam and chutney.

During the hot summer months, a cooling summer drink called panna or aamrus is made with raw mango. Mango lassi is made by adding mango pulp to the North Indian yoghurt drink lassi.

The fruit is also used in a variety of cereal products, in particular muesli and oat granola.

Nutrient and antioxidant properties
Mango is rich in a variety of photochemical and nutrients that qualify it as a model "super fruit". The fruit is high in soluble dietary fiber, vitamin C, polyphenols and carotenoids. Mangoes are high in Vitamin B6, Potassium and Copper along with Vitamin K, other B vitamins and amino acids. Mango peel and pulp contain other phytonutrients, such as omega-3 and -6 polyunsaturated fatty acids.

Mango contains essential vitamins and dietary minerals. Besides the antioxidant vitamins A, C and E that counteract free radicals in various disease mechanisms, Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine), vitamin K, other B vitamins and essential nutrients such as potassium, copper and 17 amino acids are at good levels.

It's wonderful when a fruit that tastes so delicious has so many wonderful nutrients in it. Combine the exotic sweetness of mangoes with the health benefits of green tea and you have a tasty Weight Watchers recipe.
